From the yogic tradition
Restorative Yoga
Restorative Yoga deeply relaxes the body, releases tension, and helps you fully rest and recover. It's a gentle practice of comfortable, supported poses held for several minutes, often with props, so you can completely let go.
Resting in fully supported poses lets the muscles release completely and signals deep safety to the nervous system, which brings the body into a profound state of rest and recovery. You may feel heaviness, warmth, deep relaxation, and sometimes drowsiness as you let go. Restorative yoga has been studied for reducing stress and fatigue and supporting relaxation and recovery. It grew out of the use of props in modern yoga to make supported, healing rest accessible to everyone. There's nothing to achieve here, the whole point is to do as little as possible and let yourself be supported, so if you simply rest or even drift off, you're doing it right.
