From the Daoist tradition
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga releases deep tension, improves flexibility, and helps you slow down and settle. It's a slow, passive practice where you hold gentle floor poses for several minutes each, letting gravity do the work. Ease into each pose only as far as is comfortable.
Holding poses passively for a few minutes gently stretches the deep connective tissue and joints rather than the muscles, while the long stillness shifts the nervous system toward calm. You may feel a deep, sometimes intense stretch, a gradual release as you settle in, and a quiet, grounded calm by the end. Yin and other slow yoga styles have been studied for improving flexibility, reducing stress, and supporting relaxation. Yin Yoga draws on older Taoist and yogic traditions, developed into its modern slow-held form in recent decades. You don't need to be flexible or reach any particular depth, the pose works at whatever range feels right, and there's nothing to push toward or achieve.
