From the Buddhist tradition

Zen Meditation

Zen Meditation settles the mind, sharpens presence, and cultivates a quiet, alert stillness. Known as zazen, it's the practice of sitting in an upright, stable posture and resting attention on the breath or simply on being present.

The emphasis on posture and open, present-moment attention trains the mind to settle into stillness without chasing thoughts, building a steady, alert calm. You may feel restlessness, the urge to move, or stretches of clear stillness, all of these are part of sitting. Zen practice has been studied for its effects on attention, stress, and a steady, present state of mind. Zazen is the core practice of Zen Buddhism, developed over centuries in China and Japan as a direct path to presence. If stillness feels hard and your mind or body keeps fidgeting, that's normal, the practice is simply to keep returning to your posture and breath, and it grows more natural over time.
