Self Compassion Meditation

Self Compassion Meditation softens harsh self-talk, eases the sting of a hard moment, and helps you meet yourself with more kindness. It's the practice of turning warmth and understanding toward yourself, especially when you're struggling. Because it invites you to sit with difficult feelings, give yourself a settled moment before you begin.

Deliberately offering yourself kindness in a hard moment calms the threat response that fuels self-criticism and activates the body's soothing system, which over time builds a steadier, kinder inner voice. You may feel relief and warmth, or you may notice resistance, sadness, or the urge to dismiss the kindness, all of which are normal. Self-compassion practices have been studied for reducing self-criticism and supporting emotional resilience and wellbeing. It draws on Buddhist compassion practices and was developed into a secular approach through modern self-compassion research and training. If being kind to yourself feels uncomfortable or undeserved at first, that's a very common response, not a failure, self-kindness becomes more natural with practice.
