TRE

Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises releases stored tension, discharges stress from the body, and can leave you feeling lighter and more settled. Also called tension and trauma releasing, it uses gentle exercises to bring on natural, involuntary shaking that lets the body let go. Because it can stir up stored emotion, take a settled moment before you start and go gently.

The exercises trigger a natural tremoring reflex the body uses to discharge tension, which can release physical and emotional stress that's been held in the muscles and nervous system. You may feel your legs or body shaking on their own, warmth, emotional waves, and a deep release or tiredness afterward, all of which are normal. Tremor-based release practices have been explored for discharging stress and tension and supporting the body's recovery from stress. TRE was developed by a modern trauma specialist, drawing on the natural shaking response seen in animals and people after stress. If the shaking feels strange or emotion comes up, that's a normal part of releasing, you can slow down or stop anytime, and it feels more natural with practice.
