IFS Protector Journal
The IFS Protector Journal helps you understand an inner critic or self-sabotaging pattern with curiosity instead of frustration, and ease the inner conflict behind it. It's a writing exercise where you turn toward a part of yourself, like the critic or the part that procrastinates, and get to know what it's trying to do for you. Because it invites you into tender inner territory, take a settled moment before you begin.
Treating a harsh or stuck pattern as a part with a protective intention, rather than a flaw, lowers the inner conflict and lets you relate to it with curiosity, which softens its grip. You may feel resistance, surprise at a part's hidden intention, or unexpected tenderness toward yourself. Internal Family Systems is a recognized therapeutic model studied for working with inner conflict and self-criticism. IFS was developed by therapist Richard Schwartz, who mapped the mind as a system of parts around a core self. If talking to a part of yourself feels strange or nothing answers back at first, that's completely normal, just stay curious, and it becomes more natural with practice.
